OPTOMETRY/CONTACT LENS |
The Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Science employs two Doctors of Optometry who are primarily concerned with vision, the visual system, and vision information processing in children and adults. Our optometry service offers prescriptions for eyeglasses, as well as contact lens fittings. Spectacle and contact lenses can be ordered through the Optical Shop on the premises. Our optometrists work closely with licensed opticians to prescribe and order the correct parameters and contact lens material for successful contact lens wear. Education in the usage, insertion, removal, and care of contact lenses is provided by the Optical Shop. In evaluating the health of the eye, optometrists may treat some ocular disorders (glaucoma, ocular surface infections/inflammation), however, in many cases referral to an ophthalmologist may be required for further evaluation, treatment, and possible surgery. |
