PEDIATRIC OPHTHALMOLOGY AND STRABISMUS


The Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Science is dedicated to vision care and the treatment of a variety of diseases that disrupt visual development in children. The Department staffs two ophthalmologists whose subspecialty is pediatrics and strabismus. Our ophthalmologists are skilled in performing complex eye surgery as well as the management of eye problems using eyeglasses and medication.

Pediatric ophthalmologists are specially trained to treat:

    Bullet   Accomodation and convergence insufficiency

    Bullet   Amblyopia

    Bullet   Blocked tear ducts

    Bullet   Infections

    Bullet   Pediatric cataracts

    Bullet   Pediatric glaucoma

    Bullet   Ptosis

    Bullet   Refractive errors (myopia and astigmatism)

    Bullet   Retinopathy of prematurity

    Bullet   Strabismus

    Bullet   Visual problems in education

Pediatric ophthalmologists work with multi-disciplinary medical teams to treat children with genetic disorders that affect the eyes. Examination by a Pediatric ophthalmologist is essential in the diagnosis of many genetic conditions in children.

The Department also staffs one pediatric optometrist whose focus is on the evaluation and management of visual problems that can be corrected through the use of spectacle and contact lenses.
