W. Daniel Stamer, PhD
Associate Professor Dr. Stamer earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology and his doctorate in Pharmacology & Toxicology from the University of Arizona. His postdoctoral training includes one year at the University of Arizona and two years at Duke University. Dr. Stamer returned to the University of Arizona and joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Science in 1998 to set up and direct the Glaucoma Research Laboratory. After four years of productive research, teaching and service, Dr. Stamer was granted tenure and promoted to Associate Professor in 2003. Then in 2004 Dr. Stamer was appointed as Associate Head for Vision Science in the College of Medicine to administer research programs in visual development, ophthalmic optics and neurodegenerative diseases of the eye. In terms of National and International service, Dr. Stamer is the co-organizer of the physiology/pharmacology section of the XVIII International Congress for Eye Research in Beijing, China, a member of the Program Committee for the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, a member of Anterior Eye Disease Study Section for the Center for Scientific Review at the National Institutes of Health, a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the American Health Assistance Foundation and Cytokinetics, Inc., a member of the National Diabetes Research Interchange Feasibility Review Committee and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Life Sciences Journal. Dr. Stamer is a member of several Professional Organizations: the Association for Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics, the International Society for Eye Research, the Trabecular Meshwork Society, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the Western Pharmacological Society, and the American Society for Cell Biology. In keeping with his goal to train future glaucoma scientists, Dr. Stamer is a participating faculty in Medical Pharmacology, Committee on Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, and Physiological Sciences Graduate Programs at the University of Arizona. |
