Meet the Team

Irene Adams is a Vision Screening
Technician. Before joining our team in 1999, Irene was a manager
for a day-care program. Irene is a trained eyeglass fitter.
She dispenses and fits all of the eyeglasses for the children
enrolled in the program, and encourages the children to wear
their glasses. Irene is a member of the Tohono O’Odham Nation,
and her office is located in Sells. |

Pat Broyles is a Program Coordinator in
the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Science at The
University of Arizona. Pat has provided administrative support
and has served as a vision tester for the TOVSP since it began
in 1997. |

Candice Clifford-Donaldson is a Senior
Research Specialist at the University of Arizona. She has
a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and a Master’s degree
in Public Health from the University of Arizona. Candice directs
all TOVSP testing of 6-month to 3-year-old children conducted
at Women, Infants and Children (WIC) clinics. She is and is
skilled in the use of a variety of instruments for measurement
of refractive error and in the measurement of grating visual
acuity of infants and young children. |

Dr. Velma Dobson is a Professor of Ophthalmology
and Vision Science and Psychology at the University of Arizona,
and is a Co-Director of the TOVSP. Dr. Dobson has a PhD in
Experimental Psychology, and is an expert in the area of visual
development. She oversees all of the vision testing conducted
as part of the TOVSP. |

Tina Green is a Research Specialist at
the University of Arizona. She is a Registered Dietitian who
holds a Master’s degree in Nutritional Science from the University
of Arizona. Tina conducts measurement of refractive error
and assessment of visual acuity in infants and children between
6 months of age and first grade who are enrolled in TOVSP.

Dr. Erin Harvey is an experimental psychologist
who specializes in the study of visual perception and visual
development in infants and young children. Dr. Harvey is currently
Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Vision Science, with
a joint appointment in the College of Public Health. She is
the Director of the Tohono O’Odham Vision Screening Program
(TOVSP) and Principal Investigator of the National Eye Institute
grant titled “Amblyopia in Astigmatic Children – Development
and Treatment”, which funds the program. |

Dr. Joseph Miller is a Professor of Ophthalmology
and Vision Science, Optical Sciences, and the College of Public
Health at the University of Arizona, and is Chair of the Department
of Ophthalmology and Vision Science. Dr. Miller is the Medical
Director of TOVSP. He is a pediatric ophthalmologist, and
conducts eye examinations for infants and children enrolled
in the TOVSP. |

Sonja Ortega is a Vision Screening Technician.
Sonja contacts and invites parents of infants and toddlers
to participate in the program, and conducts vision screening
of preschool and school-age children. Sonja is a member of
the Tohono O’Odham Nation, and her office is located in Sells.
